Recovery from your work outs is nearly as important as the workout itself. Many have used foam rolling before or after exercise to improve their training session and recovery efforts.
Body Tempering has the ability to reduce soreness, improve tissue quality, and get an athlete ready to perform their task at hand. Currently, there are over 17 Professional Teams in the NFL, NBA, and MLB, along with over 20 D1 schools employing Body Tempering with their athletes to aid in their athletic performance and recovery. So, what is Body Tempering and why would you choose it over the traditional foam roller?
Body Tempering is the use of weighted metal rollers to accelerate sport performance and recovery by combatting soft tissue restrictions. Did you train legs hard two days ago, and now you're struggling with soreness that is restricting your range of movement? This might be making it harder to hit a full ass to grass squat? Body tempering has been shown to drastically reduce soreness and improve range of motion, allowing you to train harder than with a typical foam roller.
When you roll yourself from the foam roller, there are some limitations. First, as you use the foam roller, over time, it degrades. You also are not able to apply a constant amount of force to the tissues, due to the foam. With body tempering, weight is constant. If you are rolled out by a 50lbs metal roller, the next time you use it, the same 50lbs of force will be applied.
Body tempering aims to combat soft tissue restrictions with three types of tempering: dynamic, static, and target body tempering, as below:
